Helping Kids Eat Healthy In The Holidays

An astonishing 700,000 London children experience food insecurity during holiday periods. Kitchen Social is run by the Mayor’s Fund for London and provides food to children during the school holidays. The hubs provide not only nutritious meals, but also social activities and a chance to teach young people skills around healthy eating, budgeting, and cooking.

The Berkeley Foundation funds 18 hubs across London, providing more than 7,200 meals to 1,682 children during the school holidays. In particular, it funds a hub at the Triangle Adventure Playground on Ashmole Street. This has been open since May 2018 and in their first year they had an average of 30 children accessing their playground everyday.
